Wooden Train Whistle with Blast Chart, turned and finished in hardwood by Maple Landmark. The edges are sanded rather than left square, and the finish is a child-safe one, which is what separates a toy meant to be handled from a decorative object that happens to be wooden.
Solid wood is the point here: it takes the knocks a plastic equivalent would crack under, and it ages into something worth keeping rather than something that looks tired after a season. These get handed down more often than they get thrown out.
Maple Landmark has been making wooden toys, games and gifts at its shop in Middlebury, Vermont since 1979, with about forty employees and public factory tours. Made in Middlebury, Vermont by Maple Landmark.
