Stoneware is fired to roughly 2,200°F over an 18-hour kiln cycle, which vitrifies the clay — it stops being porous, so it will not absorb odours or harbour what you ferment in it. It also means it can go from the fridge to a conventional oven, the microwave or the dishwasher without crazing.
Made in Zanesville, Ohio by one of the last commercial potteries left in the country — family-owned, with a five-year guarantee against defects.
