Obenauf’s Leather Oil was developed by an Idaho wildland firefighter who needed a leather treatment that could handle heat, abrasion, and full immersion without breaking down the boot. The formula is natural oils and propolis — the resin honeybees use to seal the hive — which penetrates leather deeply and seals from the inside.
The 16oz bottle is enough to treat a pair of boots several times or a full set of leather work gear once. The oil darkens leather significantly on application, which matters for light-colored leather but is usually the goal for work boots. Applies with a rag or applicator brush, absorbs over a few hours, and doesn’t leave a greasy surface.
Obenauf’s is a small family-owned company in Idaho, formulating and bottling its leather oil and LP (Leather Preservative) in-house since 1985. The product has a cult following among wildland firefighters, ranchers, and outdoor workers who need leather that survives hard use.
