This stoneware crock weight is the replacement piece for the 1-gallon Ohio Stoneware fermentation crock and matching mid-size fermenting vessels. Two half-moon shapes lock together inside the crock above your vegetables — packing down kraut, pickles, or peppers and keeping every leaf, stem, and slice fully submerged under the brine where lactic-acid fermentation runs cleanly and mold can’t take hold.
The weight is thrown from the same heavy stoneware clay as the matching crocks and finished in a brown utility glaze that hides stain build-up between batches. Because the weights are stoneware rather than glass or plastic, they’re inert against salt brine and acidic ferments — they don’t leach, react, or absorb flavors between projects. The half-moon split design makes them easy to lift, clean, and dry between uses, and the slight density of the clay gives them enough mass to hold cabbage down without floating once the ferment gets active.
If your original weights cracked, chipped, or went missing in a move, this is the direct replacement piece. It also pairs neatly with the 1-gallon Ohio Stoneware crock for anyone setting up a smaller fermentation rotation alongside a larger 3- or 5-gallon master crock. Hand-wash between batches and store dry.
