This Merry Corliss Homesteader’s kit is the supersized olive oil lamp option — converts a 1-gallon glass jar into a large-capacity oil lamp with multi-day continuous burn time. The steel element measures 9 inches tall by 3-5/8 inches outer diameter and uses a 1-inch wide flat wick (vs. the 1/8 inch round wicks of the smaller pint and votive elements) for significantly higher light output.
You supply the gallon jar — a standard wide-mouth pickle jar, oversized canning jar, or recycled mason gallon works. The steel element hooks over the jar mouth and suspends the wick into the oil below. With a gallon of olive oil as fuel, the lamp burns for an extended period — useful for off-grid cabin lighting where you don’t want to refill every day, or for emergency-power scenarios where lamp maintenance time is at a premium.
USA made. Suitable as a centerpiece for large gatherings (the gallon-jar lamp is visually striking), an emergency primary-lighting solution for off-grid households, or as a long-burn backup lamp that doesn’t need attention for days. Pair with the Merry Corliss flat wick refills for ongoing operation. Lehman’s catalog selection.
