3 gallon stoneware preserving crock, fired with a lead-free food-safe glaze.
Stoneware is fired to roughly 2,200°F over an 18-hour kiln cycle, which vitrifies the clay — it stops being porous, so it will not absorb odours or harbour what you ferment in it. That is what makes a crock usable for sauerkraut and pickles season after season.
