The Omnipure K2548-JJ is the calcite-media inline filter for raising the pH of acidic water. The cartridge is filled with calcium carbonate (calcite) media that gradually dissolves into the water as it passes through, raising the water’s pH from acidic (below 7) toward neutral or slightly alkaline (7-8 range). Used primarily as a post-filter on reverse osmosis systems (RO water is naturally slightly acidic) and on well water supplies that come out of the ground acidic.
Why pH matters: acidic water is corrosive to plumbing fixtures, fittings, and appliances over time. Raising pH protects metal plumbing (copper pipes, brass fittings) and contributes to better-tasting water for drinking. The calcite media is food-grade and safe — calcium carbonate is the same compound used in over-the-counter antacid tablets.
JJ fittings indicate the 1/4-inch quick-connect inline standard. Pulls into a 1/4-inch water line with no tools required, gets replaced when the calcite media is exhausted (typically 6-12 months of residential use). Made by Omnipure in Caldwell, Idaho — the long-time American manufacturer of inline carbon and specialty filtration whose products are proudly assembled in the USA.
