The Vaughan SDF40 Double Faced Engineer Hammer is a 2.5-pound short-handle drilling hammer with two flat striking faces, a rust-resistant black head finish, and a hickory handle sized for one-handed swing on chisels, star drills, and steel stakes. The double-face design lets you flip the hammer when one face starts to mushroom from heavy strikes on steel.
Use it for setting masonry chisels, driving cold chisels and star drills, pounding stakes, automotive bodywork striking, blacksmith and farrier work, and any one-hand striking job too heavy for a claw hammer and too light for a full sledge. The hickory handle absorbs the heavy-strike shock the way fiberglass simply doesn’t on this style of hammer.
Vaughan & Bushnell has been forging hammers in Hebron, Illinois since 1869 and remains the largest American striking-tool manufacturer still operating in the United States. The SDF40 carries Vaughan’s lifetime warranty against defects in material and workmanship.
