The Vaughan SDF48 Double Faced Engineer Hammer is a 3-pound short-handle drilling hammer with two flat striking faces, a rust-resistant black head finish, and a hickory handle for one-handed swing on heavy chisels, star drills, and steel stakes. The half-pound bump over the SDF40 puts more drive into stubborn cold chisels and concrete star drills without forcing a switch to a two-hand sledge.
Use it for setting masonry chisels in concrete, driving cold chisels through hardened steel, pounding rebar stakes and survey markers, blacksmith work, farrier hoof-stand striking, and any one-hand striking job where 2.5 pounds isn’t moving the workpiece. The hickory handle absorbs strike shock and resists the head loosening that synthetic handles develop on heavy striking duty.
Vaughan & Bushnell has been forging hammers in Hebron, Illinois since 1869 and remains the largest American striking-tool manufacturer still operating in the United States. The SDF48 carries Vaughan’s lifetime warranty against defects in material and workmanship.
