The Council Tool Wood-Craft Pack Axe is a trail-weight hand axe built for camp splitting, limbing, and campsite work — 2-pound head, 19-inch American hickory handle, and a forged bit that sharpens to a shaving edge and holds it through real work. The Velvicut-style finish is smoother than Council’s mainline Hudson Bay axes, and the leather sheath protects the edge in transit.
The drop-forged 5160 steel head is heat-treated for a hard edge over a tough body — it can take abuse without chipping, but sharpens like a knife. The hickory handle is traditional for striking tools because the grain absorbs shock without transferring it to the hand. At 19 inches, the axe is short enough to pack and long enough for real swinging leverage.
Council Tool has forged striking tools at its Lake Waccamaw, North Carolina factory since 1886 — one of the oldest continuously running American tool forges. The company supplies forestry, wildland firefighting, and railroad axes to government agencies, and builds the Wood-Craft line for outdoor enthusiasts using the same shop that makes the professional gear.
