This is an 18-inch China cymbal from Zildjian’s S Family, formed with the upturned outer flange that defines the China profile. That inverted edge is what produces the abrupt, trashy attack and short decay rather than the sustained shimmer of a crash.
It works as an accent voice in rock, metal, and worship settings, where you want a stab that cuts a dense mix and clears quickly. Mounted upside down it gets even more bite and a faster choke.
The Avedis Zildjian Company has made cymbals since 1623 and manufactures them at its factory in Norwell, Massachusetts; its drumsticks are turned at the company’s Newport, Maine plant.
