The Field Company No.8 Cast Iron Skillet Lid is a 10.25-inch domed cast iron lid sized to fit the No.8 Field skillet, turning a frying pan into a lidded braiser, dutch oven, or covered roasting vessel. The cast iron lid retains heat with the same thermal mass as the skillet body, making it a true two-piece cooking system rather than the lighter aluminum or glass lids most skillets ship with.
Use it as a partner to the No.8 skillet for braising chicken, pork shoulder, short ribs, and other dishes that need covered slow cooking, a moisture-trapping cover for skillet rice and pilafs, a dutch-oven substitute for skillet bread, a covered roasting vessel for whole chickens and small roasts, and any application where converting the skillet to a closed-vessel cooker matters. The cast iron mass keeps the dome warm while the contents finish.
Field Company is a small American family-owned cast iron maker, casting at U.S. foundries and machining the cooking surfaces in-house. Every Field piece is modeled on the lighter, smoother cast iron of pre-1900 American kitchens.
