This is the Rite in the Rain No. 56-2, a two-pack of heavy-duty lead holder pencils in black and orange with 5.6mm dark 2B lead and three spare leads included — four total. The gravity-fed clutch feeds lead fast and grips it solidly while writing.
It marks lumber, concrete, and wet field notes where fine mechanical pencils snap — the triangular textured barrel stays put in a gloved hand, and the heavy clip anchors it to a pocket or tool pouch.
Rite in the Rain has made all-weather writing paper in Tacoma, Washington since 1916, when it was developed for logging crews in the Pacific Northwest.
