Plenty of apartment buildings and condo associations ban open flame on balconies. The Q1400 is the answer: it plugs into a standard outlet, draws 1,560 watts, and grills on the same porcelain-enameled cast-iron grates Weber puts in its propane Q series.
That grate material matters. Cast iron stores heat and releases it into the food, which is how you get sear marks from an electric appliance instead of the gray, steamed result cheaper electric grills produce. The infinite control dial lets you dial the element anywhere between low and high rather than choosing from three preset settings.
The 189-square-inch cooking area handles dinner for a small family, and the removable catch pan slides out for cleanup. Weber’s Q series is manufactured in the United States.
