This Coveside Batchelor Pad is a single-chamber bat house with the tight interior spacing and textured climbing surfaces that bats need to roost securely. The dark pine exterior absorbs sun to keep the chamber warm, which is exactly what a maternity or bachelor colony looks for during the day.
Mount it twelve to twenty feet up on a building wall or pole that gets six or more hours of direct sun, near a water source if you can. A resident colony spends the night hunting insects, and a modest group of bats can take a real bite out of backyard mosquitoes through the summer.
Coveside has been handcrafting bird and wildlife habitats in Maine for decades, using sustainably sourced wood and conservation-minded designs trusted by backyard naturalists.
