This is an elevated trough bed built from 3/4-inch North American cedar, standing on four legs that put the growing surface at roughly waist height. Cedar carries its own natural oils, so the frame resists rot and insects without any chemical treatment or liner.
The raised height suits anyone who would rather not kneel — it fits on a patio, deck or balcony and keeps soil well clear of pets and foot traffic. The trough depth is right for lettuce, spinach, herbs and other shallow-rooted crops grown close to the kitchen door.
Greenes Fence has been building cedar garden structures in Ohio since 1947, working with North American timber.
