The Granberg G781-36 Handle and Rail Set is the upgrade kit that turns a Basic MK-IV Alaskan Mill carriage into a complete rail-guided portable sawmill capable of cutting flat boards from logs up to 36 inches in diameter. The set ships two aircraft-grade aluminum rails plus zinc-plated steel handles that bolt directly to a Granberg G778 or G777 conversion carriage.
The aircraft-aluminum rail tubing keeps weight low for field use while staying rigid enough that the chainsaw bar follows a perfectly straight line across the slab. Zinc-plated handles resist corrosion in wet timber conditions, and the dual-handle layout lets one operator pull the mill steady across a 36-inch cut without a helper. The set fits the Granberg G778 (Alaskan Mark IV) and G777 (small-log) conversion kits as well as standalone chainsaw bars from 20 inches to 36 inches.
Granberg has manufactured chainsaw mill rails in Richmond, California since 1955 — the G781-36 carries Made in USA designation per the manufacturer’s listing. Pair the G781-36 with the Granberg Basic MK-IV carriage to assemble a complete portable sawmill, or use the G781-48 set when you need to mill logs up to 48 inches across.
