A pair of 2-by-4-foot beds in 3/4-inch North American cedar — the Premium stock, noticeably heavier than the Classic half-inch boards and slower to weather.
Two separate frames beat one long bed when space is broken up: a pair of patio corners, either side of a path, or opposite ends of a deck. They also make crop rotation simple, since you can swap what grows where each season without digging anything out.
