The Granberg G1085 EZ Rail Sawmill Guide System is the 5-foot guide rail kit that lets an Alaskan-mill operator make the first cut on a log without a separate slabbing board. The kit ships two crossbar assemblies, the 5-foot aluminum rail, and clamping hardware — the rail bolts to the top of a log and gives the chainsaw mill a perfectly flat reference surface for the first cut.
Without the EZ Rail, the first slabbing cut on a log requires bolting a 2×6 or straight-edge board to the log to act as a guide; the G1085 replaces that improvised setup with a precision aluminum rail that doesn’t warp, doesn’t sag, and doesn’t take 30 minutes to mount. After the first cut, subsequent slabs ride on the flat surface left by the first pass — the EZ Rail is a one-time setup per log.
Granberg has manufactured the EZ Rail system in Richmond, California since 1955 — the G1085 carries Made in USA designation per the manufacturer’s listing. Pair the 5-foot G1085 with the Granberg Alaskan MK-IV mill for short logs, or step up to the G1010 10-foot rail when the timber runs longer than 5 feet between supports.
