Eight inches is the shorter of the practical bread lengths — enough for a standard sandwich loaf or a baguette, without the unwieldiness of a 10-inch blade in a small kitchen. The scalloped DEXSTEEL edge does the cutting; the SofGrip handle absorbs the repeated sawing motion.
It handles day-to-day bread: sandwich loaves, baguettes, rolls, bagels. A sawing cut transmits a lot of movement into the palm, and the soft handle is what makes doing it repeatedly less punishing than a hard moulded grip.
Dexter-Russell has manufactured cutlery in Southbridge, Massachusetts since 1818, and its SofGrip line is built around handle comfort in repetitive work.
