This Kettle Moraine feeder mounts a single suet cage on a pole rather than a hook, with a tail prop below so woodpeckers can brace and feed upright. Building it on a pole keeps the suet away from launch points and lets you add it to an existing pole-mounted station, and the recycled poly body shrugs off weather.
Fix it to a feeder pole in an open spot, load a suet cake, and offer it through the cold months when clinging birds need fat. The poly frame resists rot and warp, the cage opens to reload, and the whole feeder wipes clean.
Kettle Moraine has built backyard bird feeders in Wisconsin for years, working in natural cedar and recycled poly lumber made to last outdoors.
